A couple years ago I bought this domain with the rationale that I’d work on changing the world by changing my own little corner of the internet.
Southernfriedhope.com was the best name I could come up with that hadn’t been taken. That’s one answer to the title question.
Fact is, I don’t exactly know what I’m doing, and I’m not entirely sure if I’ll write this post and leave this project buried in the compost of every other unstarted or unfinished thing I’ve ever tried to create. I’ve never been the greatest at finishing.
But back to the question. Southern Fried Hope. I am a southern boy. That’s where it starts. Born in Memphis, raised like nomads all through Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas, and now my flag is planted fairly firmly in the Alabama red clay of Birmingham. Fried goes along with Southern like steak goes with gravy. It just seemed an honest adjective, so I went with it. And hope?
Hope is sometimes a panacea. Sometimes it’s a companion. Sometimes it’s a gateway. For me, it’s what keeps me going when I look around and see despair, anger, and fear, and begin to feel that reflected in me, and it’s something I HOPE (ha) to share with anyone who happens upon this place, my corner of the internet. It’s both a noun and a verb. Sometimes simultaneously.
Southern Fried Hope? That’s as good a description as any of what I want to be. So, let’s begin.
